Nose reshaping is getting a lot of attention these days. Other than aesthetics, it also has a lot to do with corrective actions for various ailments. However, there may not always be a ‘problem’ to be corrected to reshape your nose. There are several reasons for individuals to undergo rhinoplasty. If you are unhappy with the shape or size of your nose, if your nose is not proportionate with the rest of your face or too wide or too large – whatever the reason, you have an option to shape it the way you want to.
After rhinoplasty, you will see a significant difference in the shape and size of your nose. You can also correct some of the structural problems that restrict breathing or cause congestion. If you are constantly conscious about your nose, it brings down your confidence and self esteem. Deciding to undergo nose reshaping surgery could change your life – it is one of the factors that greatly impact your self esteem.
On the other hand, there could be some problems like scars that are left behind by the surgery, infections that may occur or post surgery are the main after effects. These can be easily treated if the doctor is notified on time.
What are the available options for nose surgery?
There are two main procedures in nose reshaping surgery. One is the open approach and the other is the internal approach. There are also various methods of augmenting your nose and smoothing surface deformities.
- 1. Autologous cartilage grafts are taken from the nasal septum. Nasal septum is the wall inside the nose that divides one air passage from the other. This offers the best chance of getting more natural results. Ear or rib cartilage or bones from the skull are also other options available.
- 2. Solid silicone implants are the second option available for nose surgery. These foreign materials are skillfully implanted to give your nose the right shape. However, these foreign materials may react with your nose tissues and make it look unnatural. Cartilage is a better and trouble free option.
- 3. Fillers or fat grafts are the third option. These are injected to smooth the nose. They can appropriately fill and camouflage deformities and indentations. They can also be used to add volume to certain areas.
With open rhinoplasty, the incisions are made outside the nose. There are also small incisions made underside of the nose and between the nostrils. This type of surgery provides better visualization of the procedure and provides a better route for surgical procedures.
With endonasal rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nasal passage and they will be invisible even after surgery.
Whatever the reason or the procedure selected by the doctor, after reshaping your nose you will walk around with a new found self esteem. It will greatly improve the way you ‘see’ yourself and give you the confidence to carry yourself around with more style and more positive outlook towards yourself. It’s a fairly simple procedure with a great impact on your daily life!
